I was honored by the Virginia Press Association with a first place award for a package of feature articles I wrote in 2016. One story followed a Charlottesville police officer as she began her career and examined the lack of women in law enforcement. Another story focused on an Albemarle County police K9 dog that died protecting his handler.
I was honored with a state award from the Virginia Press Association for several stories about gun safety, credit card skimming, and other public safety issues. Stories in this category focus on issues that could affect a wide array of people and inform communities about threats to public safety.
The Waynesboro, Va. Police Department honored me with an award for public service to the department and the community. As a reporter, I worked closely with the police department to write stories about the dangers of drugs in the city, arrests and public safety notices. I also wrote stories about the department's struggles to get more money from the City Council to hire more officers for their understaffed department.
